As a certified Great Place to Work®, Elantis is celebrating our unique company culture on Certification Nation Day. Certified workplaces come online on May 17, 2022 to share with the world what makes them a great workplace, and to foster workplace pride and belonging.

Here at Elantis, we have a unique company culture that sets us apart and makes us a great place to work. But what is company culture? Great Place to Work Institute® Canada defines company culture as “how you do what you do in the workplace. It’s the sum of your formal and informal systems and behaviors and values, all of which create an experience for your employees and customers.”

It can be difficult to define a workplace’s culture because the definition is often below the surface. This article in Harvard Business Review explains that culture is an “elusive lever, because much of it is anchored in unspoken behaviors, mindset, and social patterns.” It is often revealed in “how we do things around here.”

What makes our company culture unique?

When we asked employees about their experience and what it’s like to work at Elantis, we uncovered a few themes: working as a team, having one unified Elantis Way, caring about each other, helping each other out, and having autonomy to own the experience. Chelsea Balbosa, Team Talent Consultant at Elantis, describes our culture as, “casual and laid back. We are all very inquisitive, we all want to learn continuously, and we’re always asking questions to find ways to be more efficient and effective.” Watch this video to hear how Chelsea and other employees describe our culture and what it’s like to work here.

At Elantis, one of our core values is to focus on people. That’s why we have a variety of ways to build connection, promote work-life balance, and celebrate together. Some of our most memorable moments happen during Elantis Experience, a weekly meeting with all staff where we share updates on projects, kudos and thank yous, and perhaps most importantly – memes. This fun and interactive Friday afternoon ritual helps our team relax and decompress after the week’s activities.

What it means to be certified as a Great Place to Work®

As we shared in the announcement earlier this year, being certified as a Great Place to Work® means that our employees have a high level of trust in the workplace by focusing on five key dimensions: credibility, respect, fairness, pride, and camaraderie.

Being certified as a Great Place to Work® “is an exciting milestone that signifies how much we’ve grown as a company and is a step in unifying us as a team even more,” said Chelsea. “Everyone here has different perspectives and different talents they bring to the table. Rolling out the Great Place to Work® survey itself demonstrates senior leadership’s focus on people and readiness to take that feedback to continue Elantis’ growth.”

Nancy Fonseca, Senior Vice President of Great Place to Work® Canada, says that a great workplace is about the level of trust that employees experience in their leaders, the level of pride they have in their jobs, and the extent to which they enjoy working with their colleagues. “Our data shows that great workplaces benefit from stronger financial performance, reduced turnover, and better customer satisfaction than their peers. What’s more, work environments with trust at the foundation are ripe for innovation, agility, resilience, and efficiency,” Fonseca said.

How to tell what company culture is a fit for you

During the early stages of our recruitment process at Elantis, we assess cultural fit. It is important for us to hear what candidates value, what motivates them, and how they are most productive. It is also important for us to share with them what makes Elantis unique, to discern if our company culture is a fit for them.

“What makes us unique is that we all enjoy the work that we do,” said Chelsea. “We enjoy being around people, being collaborative and communicative, and respecting each other’s learning and space.”

This article offers three things to assess if a company culture is right for you, including: what motivates you, what makes you happy, and what is the lifestyle fit. Taking time to reflect on your preferences will be worth the time during your job search, helping you to determine which companies truly focus on people and are a great place to work.
