Elantis supports breaking the bias on International Women’s Day

On International Women’s Day, employees in Elantis’ Edmonton and Vancouver branches are celebrating the social, economic, and cultural achievements of women. One of our core values is to focus on people, which means that we are respectful of one another’s differences and foster mentorship to help women grow their career.

Amy Grendus, Director of Marketing and Business Development says, “International Women’s Day is key to reinforcing that every person deserves to be heard no matter their gender. We need to continue supporting one another and making space for diverse points of view.”

As an IT consulting company, we recognize the importance of being a champion of change in what has traditionally been a male-dominated industry. Men are important allies and advocates in accelerating women’s equality. “It is time to continue breaking the bias, each one of us in our own collective spheres, to create communities that are equitable and free of discrimination,” says Josef Hans Lara, VP of Business Development.

One of our employees, Christina Stimson, Project Management Office Lead, shares how she takes an active role in inspiring the next generation of women leaders in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). “I volunteer as a Guider, leading three levels of Girl Guides, meeting three nights a week and each Saturday for Adventure Club. While other units were having virtual spa days during the pandemic, we partnered with Engineering for Kids to build robots. The Guides absolutely loved it and we had a robot dance party at an outdoor park to celebrate their amazing group and individual accomplishments.”

In addition to volunteering for Women Who Code and Teens Who Code events, Christina also works as an advocate and teacher in MacEwan University’s Library Sciences department, where she sets up programming with Edmonton Public Library, an organization that is committed to STEM development. “I’d love the opportunity to do more,” says Christina, “But right now I’m working on setting a healthy balance to show my daughter and those coming into our field that life, love, and work can be combined into something amazingly fulfilling.”

Andrea Nwobosi, Marketing and Business Development Specialist, also envisions a more gender-balanced world for the next generation. “I think it’s important that we observe International Women’s Day because I believe women need a platform for their voices to be heard. When we amplify women’s contributions, achievements, and progress, we showcase everything girls and women are capable of. I am hopeful for a future where my daughter can experience a world free from bias, stereotypes, and discrimination— where she can be, do, and have anything she dreams of, regardless of her gender.”

The 2022 theme for International Women’s Day is #BreakTheBias. On March 8th, join Elantis in raising awareness of the signification impact that bias—both conscious and unconscious—has on women’s equality.
